Cultural Identity Wrap-up

Before I learn this unit on Cultural Identity, I have seen many culture fusion cases. However, I didn’t know that is the culture fusion. After this class, I have found out that our world become more and more alike. Such as counters, food and movies. Nowadays, we are knowing more things from other countries.  Also, we are combining our own culture and others’ culture together. For example, movies, songs, believes. In fact, some of the good hobbies and customs will fuse in our culture. By the way, cultural can not fuse if it without understanding. Understanding others and express ourselves it is a way to keep the cultural diversity.

Before I started this class I thought America is a liberal and free country that is different from all over the world. But after reaching some experience and studying more about America with the discussions in this class, I find out that it is not true. People in America are freely choosing from the list of the federal and state government that provide for them. Choosing something not in the list is considered criminal. That’s not freedom of choice, that’s state control of people`s lives.
And also in America still is discrimination between different races that doesn’t look like that. A small amount of people are rich and rest of them are poor and day by day are getting more and more poor. So unfortunately there is no utopia all over the world.

Cultural Identity Wrap-up

Religion, lifestyle, education, economy. People thing that it is more comfortable to live with them and it is more easier. But why people live others whom are not like them in other to learn new things and new culture just like our class, people are from different countries and have different culture. We are all interested in different culture.

Cultural Identity Wrap-up

In the unit of Cultural Identity I had learned many things that had changed the way I understan another cultures. after reading the chapters I had learned that we don't have make distinctions in between cultures, instead of that we have to share ideas and became with new ways of living in peace and harmony. Also I had learned that we don't have to  put stereotypes on people by the way they look because nobody has to be punished just because some people  of their countries had done bad things. everybody has a value and we have to respect that if we want to be respect for somebody else. Another thing that I had achieved in this unit is that the more we interact with people from around the world the more we are enriching our knowledge.

Cultural Identity Wrap-up

After learning in this unit on Cultural Identity, I have a new understanding identity of culture. Before, I only knew that culture was where you born to decide which culture you were. But now, I realize it is wrong. The identity of culture is extensive. It includes different aspects of life. Such as nationality, belief, hobby, custom, personal character, and so on. In fact, all of them are close to your life every day. If you would like to explain what cultural identity is, the best way is personal experience. Therefore, cultural has no a settled type identity. The more you learn or try in your life, the more you understand. You will have a fantasy trip on your cultural learning courses.

I learned a lot in this unit on Cultural Identity. And the most important thing that I learned is the trend of globalization is irreversible.

In now days, we can eat Thailand food, Japanese foodChinese food near our apartment. We make friends with many people from different countries. The globalization is very important to our life. No one can stop it. It is around us in everywhere. It can make our life more and more better. We can easily learn the culture of the other countries. We can know a lot what we never heard before. Also, globalization is very important for the economy of countries.  It offers a lot of new methods and technology. So I think globalization is irreversible.

In this unit, I learned a lot about advantages and disadvantages of people living in America. This unit helped me become more open minded and change my point of views in a good way. Starting from learning about diversity changing in America to listening to the songs that have its own meaning, I can honestly say that my knowledge got enhanced better that I expected. First, I learned the differences between Salad Bowl and Melting Pot, Globalization and Americanization, and of course, the differences of each culture. I also got the chance to understand some narrative essays from different people, which made me relate to their own stories. In this unit, it was also my pleasure to share my very own cultural identity and honored to know each and everyone's culture. These informations made me look forward for more facts and ideas in this class.

Cultural Identity Wrap-up

In this Culture Identity Unit, I have learned a lot that I never learned before. I have learned of things about different culture. In this unit, I learned that culture can being change by immigrate from place to place. After I did the poster about culture, it makes me to learn more about different kinds of culture.

Welcome to China Culture

My Poster has some pictures about the China and compare the pictures with U.S.A. On the China culture side, I have a pictures of my country which is Guangdong also I have a picture of dim sum and the two pictures about the holiday in China, Guangdong. And then on the other side which is U.S.A culture, I have a picture of U.S.A., a America flag and also has a picture about the holiday. I chose this images to put on my poster because this images can explain how China culture and U.S.A. culture looks like and can see what is their difference. This image mean to me is it can explains how I think China and U.S.A.'s difference and similar.

Cultural Identity Wrap-up

I learned from this unit a lot of things such as; how the identity could be change by changing the place or moving from place to another place (Country). For that reason you might face challenge to preserve your culture or identity. On the other hand, I learned how the American culture’s had a big effect on the world. Even though moving from country to another country could strongly effect on the original culture, still is considered as new experience and make you to know about other cultures. Moreover, I learned from my classmates’ posters how they are different in their language, country and their perspective to identify the meaning of the culture. Finally, I think this unit opened my eyes on a lot of things and gave me information about what does mean cultural identity.

After finishing from culture identity unit, I learned a lot of things about the differences between the cultures, and how is every culture distinguish the nations from each other whether through religion or language, also. The poster in the class made me more interesting to know about various cultures all over the world. In addition, the stories in general were really beneficial, but what I like it most? Two stories

And I’m going to explain why. The first story is define America, I liked it because its  gave me a good background about the culture in the united states ,and how is the people think , which  is touch me in somehow, because I am leaving in this country now and maybe I will spend the rest of my life in it.

The second story is, do I look like public enemy number one? While I was reading this story, I really felt its part of me, maybe because my Arabic descent, also the essence of this story that I had leant, is not to judge the people, because of their religions or colored of skin.

At the end, I would like to say, it’s really was useful topic , and I wish every student could got the purpose from it , in order to make the distances closer between the cultures.

Cultural Identity Wrap-up

After this unit on Culture Identity, I leaned a lots of things about different culture from the world what I have never learned before.During the world,various culture are existing in different country. People who lives in different country they have different beliefs and life styles. That makes the culture is different in each country. With the improvement of economic conditions, many people started to move their house to other country as an immigrant. For example,the United States is one of the countries where has the most immigrants in the world. These immigrants are all from different countries. With immigrant population grows up day by day, a lot of foreign culture were brought into the countries where their move in. It is the biggest cause to make the world going to more globalization. Just like the article what I read in this unit“Globalization & Americanization.This article shows us how the world going to be globalization and also shows us how important it is. Along with the globalization around the world, people can learn more foreign culture and gain more good knowledge from that.

My Cultural Identity

In this unit I learned the cultural identity means a person's background, culture, religion and what language people speak. Everyone has different culture, languages and beliefs or no beliefs at all. Language is fundamental to cultural identity, if loss of language means the loss of culture and identity. I'm Chinese, when I speak Cantonese, look at my skin color, and culture those are prove my identity. The poster that we did is about our cultural identity, including the language, foods, tradition, etc. My poster was about the Chinese famous food, such as “Dim Sum, and Moon Cake.” Both are traditional and famous food at China. Every year the Chinese people celebrate the Moon Autumn Festival, and eat moon cake. That is the tradition holiday and foods. Also, the original Dim Sum was originated in Canton (China). Most Chinese people love eats Dim Sum as breakfast.  Dim Sum and Moon Cake is good example that shows Chinese culture. So, I chose the traditional food in China to show my cultural identity.

A PIECE OF MY BEAUTIFUL GUATEMALA

My poster express what is being guatemalan, as we can see the background of my poster is the Guatemalan flag with blue on the left and right side and white in the middle also in the middle is the guatemalan shield with the national bird who express liberty and when Guatemala was independent from Spain. Another beautiful town in Guatemala is called Antigua Guatemala a colonial city by the volcanoes, this city express the mix of mayan and spain culture and is considered as a part of the Cultural Heritage of Humanity. another majestic place and known everywhere in the wold is the Mayan World  TIKAL in this part of Guatemala you can explore all the Mayan pyramids and their history. Guatemala has a lot of touristic places and also places hidden on the jungle where you will get in touch with the mother nature and have a great time. Guatemala is a place that you will never want to leave.

Cultural Identity Wrap-up by Sukiat

The unit Culture Identity gave me a lot of new ideas that I never expect. The stories in the unit were the great example cases for studying. They give the real personal experience of the author that nice because in my opinion, learning from the experience is safer and faster than I learn it by myself. Also the classmates are the parts that help this unit more interesting. Especially, talking to real people who from the different countries, a lot of new things to learn such as culture manner, system, belief, routine, and hobby of from the differences people that effected by their culture. The detail of people in each country about how they live their life in their country, and compare it with the new life in America. I can see how students in this class adapt their life style to fit in the new society very well, some of them still stick to their culture, but some of them totally change most style of life. Moreover, The poster from each student is really interesting because they show who they are, their habit, and how their attitude are. It was hard to tell what I thing about them in personal opinion on the blog because some student might not like it, so if my classmates who read my blogs curious to know how I think to you, you can come for asking me. I am always well come to answer what you want to know.

Welcome to Mongolia

I’ve been living in Chicago for 3 years. I came from Mongolia.I would love to share with you about Mongolian life and culture. Hopefully, this is going to be interesting for you.
On the poster that I made basically about Mongolian history and culture. But  my writing is about Mongolian life.

The countryside of Mongolia is one of the most romantic, mysterious, and altogether frightening places in the world. It’s green part of the year, it’s big, and it is so empty. But here is something you may not know: Ulaan Baatar, the main city, is crowded, ugly, and filled with poverty.

In my neighborhood, everyone has a high fence around their house topped with barbed wire and a dog waiting inside to tear you to pieces. The pollution is terrible since everyone in the valley burns coal, and smoke hangs over us. Children go out at six in the morning to get water from the river or well for their family. Then, if they can afford it, they go to school. A lot of teenagers here go to school and wear fashionable clothing, but so many more suffer in ways you can’t imagine.

An example of the horror is a family of seven I know who live in one small room with just rags to cover their bodies. They burn their precious pieces of coal all too quickly and the oldest child must go out and work, most likely as a prostitute.

Yet the culture of Mongolians is the most beautiful and refreshing part of my life here. These are a quiet people, but they laugh a lot. They are very hospitable and it is considered impolite not to give guests a gift. They have horse riding and archery competitions, along with wrestling and group games. Mongolian holidays are the most festive times of the year. Everyone, regardless of their situation, scrapes together enough money for food and invites family and friends to join them. For three days, they forget their troubles.

Freezing is the most common way of dying here in Mongolia, and for this alone the people have our prayers. The weather, though bitingly cold, is crisp and gives you energy. In the winter, the temperature goes down to -40*F at night. All in all, though, Mongolia is a beautiful place. When you go to your room at night and sit on that comfortable bed, look at all your clothes and possessions and remember the family in Mongolia with nothing. Then think of them on their holidays. Though we all have different lives, at certain times each year we all laugh and smile and dream.
